It has been said since ancient times that wherever the sound of wind chimes can be heard, epidemics and evil spirits will not come.
"Where did wind chimes originate? They are said to have originated in either China or India.
According to "Wind Chimes (NHK's Pot of Beauty)" (NHK Publishing), they were originally a kind of fortune-telling tool called a "Senfutaku."
It is not clear how it came to be in its current form. However, there are records that it was Honen Shonin, the founder of the Jodo sect of Buddhism, who coined the name "fuurei." In the Heian and Kamakura periods, it seems that they were also used as tools to ward off evil spirits.
In addition, when they used Nambu wind chimes, they found two sounds with different frequencies. They were not monotonous, but overlapping sounds with a "fluctuation" that was pleasant to the ear and gave a feeling of coolness.
